Biography
Standing at 5' 9½" feet tall, Heidi Klum is what you refer to as beauty with brains plus an added zing emitting the fire hidden beneath. A popular German supermodel, TV presenter, actress, fashion designer, television producer and singer, this lady has taken grab of every nook and corner of the entertainment media.
Klum was born on 1 June in Bergisch Gladbach, a small city near Cologne , Germany , in 1973. Her parents are Günther (a cosmetics company executive) and Erna (a hairdresser) . When she was still in her teen years, her friend probed her into submitting her photographs to a national contest - "Model 92. She beat over 25,000 girls and many weekly and monthly rounds later she finally won. But to the surprise of all, she turned down the offer so as to complete her education in high school.
Career in Modeling
She was studying to be a fashion designer, but soon found herself leaning towards modeling and thus signed with Metropolitan modeling agency which got her work on European runways. In 1993, after tasting huge success by walking the ramps of Europe , Heidi decided to shift base to Miami and New York to try her luck as fashion model in U.S.
Here she soon formed a bond with Victoria 's Secret as a runway model in 1997 and appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated magazine’s famous swimsuit issue. This was her ticket to fame and she soon rose to the stature of being a supermodel and added some more notable works to her kitty, namely, Vogue Magazine, ELLE and Marie Claire. In addition, she was the object/subject of Joanne Gair body painting works in the several editions ranging from 1999 to 2006.
Heidi has tasted the waters of television and films also with lending her name and appearing in several TV shows like Spin City which was her debut serial opposite Michael J. Fox, Sex and the City, Yes, Dear, and How I Met Your Mother. Her list of movies boast of cameo and bit roles in Blow Dry , Ella Enchanted, where she played a giantess in the movie and as Ursula Andress in The Life and Death of Peter Sellers(2004), The Devil Wears Prada and Perfect Stranger.
2004 also saw her donning the cap of host, judge and executive producer for the reality show Project Runway on the U.S. cable television channel Bravo, in which fashion designers compete for the opportunity to show their line at New York Fashion Week and receive money to launch their own fashion line. The show became an instant hit earning her three Emmy nominations. She soon followed this up with another show along with Tyra Banks, but this time for the German audience called Germany 's Next Top model , a German reality television show which pits contestants against each other in a variety of competitions to determine who will win a modeling contract with IMG.
The lady is also inclined towards painting and has designed her own line of swimwear. Also, she has a knack for jewelry designing and has produced several marketable creations.
Heidi was earlier married to hairdresser Ric Pipino in 1997, but filed for divorce within less than five years. She later got involved with Flavio Briatore, owner of a Formula-1 racing team with whom she has a daughter, Leni. Recently, she married British singer Seal, and the couple lives happily with their two sons, Henry Günther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel and daughter Leni.
